I’m Ragan Fry, a writer and editor working in fiction, creative nonfiction, and hybrid forms that sit between story and explanation. My work explores the quiet, often unnamed moments that give life its shape. I let the story guide the scope and format of my writing.

I’m also a developmental editor. My approach centers on structure, clarity, and rhythm rather than genre conventions, which allows me to edit across genres while preserving an author’s voice and intent. I’m thorough, direct, and collaborative. I believe revision should clarify a writer’s voice, not standardize or mute it. My aim is to sharpen a writer’s eye so they can approach their work with intention and focus.

My short story “Companion Gardening” recently appeared in Exponent magazine’s Fall 2025 issue. I live and work in South Carolina.
